DGN Architects

This was a self-directed piece of work for an imagined practice using the initials of some of my architect friends. I love working with architects and other designers in general really, as they have wonderfully high standards for documents and branding. The only problem I see with architects branding is how often it all looks the same – Swiss style. Now I love Swiss style design as much as the next person, but I think simply plonking Helvetic in a grid, as satisfying as it might look, does nothing to set your brand apart. Ironically, I think it shows a fearful approach to design and a distinct lack of personality. (Sorry if I’ve offended anyone here!)

The concept for the DGN brand mark comes directly from the floorplan of a building, which in its own right isn’t groundbreaking, but I’ve not seen anything like this before. I love how I could incorporate the curved symbol of a door in plan, into the lettering.
I’d love to explore this brand further with the addition of more colours and print techniques, but it was a nice afternoon of experimenting so I’ll quite while I’m ahead. Any architects looking for some help breaking the shackles of Helvetic, feel free to get in touch!
